Hatem Al Iraqi

<strong data-start=”153″ data-end=”175″>Hatem Abbas Farawi, known professionally as Hatem Al Iraqi (حاتم العراقي), is an Iraqi singer, composer, and music producer, born on March 20, 1969, in Baghdad, in the district of Sadr City.

Before starting his musical career, Hatem worked as a fuel seller in his neighborhood. Passionate about music from an early age, he began singing in local competitions and events, where his powerful voice and mastery of mawal — a traditional form of vocal improvisation — quickly drew attention.

By the late 1980s, he became known to the Iraqi public with his breakout song “Makhtouba,” which received wide radio play. In 1991, he made his first television appearance on Iraqi national TV with the song “Tamanite,” marking the true beginning of his professional journey. His debut album, Afker Feek, released the same year, achieved notable success.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Hatem Al Iraqi released a series of hit albums that made him one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Iraqi music. His unique style blends romance and melancholy, drawing deeply from Iraq’s musical heritage while embracing modern Arabic sounds. Some of his most popular songs include “Ya Mhajer,” “Ya Tair,” “Mohajer,” “Rouhi Rouhi,” and “Bayanshlon.”
