Elissa

Elissa (Arabic: إليسا), born Elissar Khoury on October 27, 1972, in Deir el Ahmar, Lebanon, is a Lebanese singer, songwriter, and one of the most successful female artists in the Arab world. Often referred to as the “Queen of Romance”, she is celebrated for her emotional voice, elegant image, and ability to blend classical Arabic melodies with modern pop sounds.

Elissa began her artistic career in the early 1990s, performing in small venues and festivals across Lebanon. Her talent and charisma soon caught the attention of producers, and in 1998, she released her debut album “Baddi Doub”, which immediately became a success. The title track, a duet with the Spanish singer Gérard Ferrer, introduced her unique fusion of Arabic and Mediterranean styles and positioned her as a rising star.

Her major breakthrough came with her second album, “W’akherta Ma’ak” (1999), followed by “Ayshalak” (2002) and “Ahla Dounya” (2004) — albums that established her as one of the top-selling artists in the Middle East. These releases earned her numerous awards, including multiple World Music Awards for being the Best-Selling Middle Eastern Artist, a title she has held several times throughout her career.
